The
deadline for registration of first year students will be four
weeks from the first day of orientation week; for continuing students
it will be the Friday of the second week after the beginning of
the first semester.

Except in exceptional circumstances, no students will be allowed
to change subjects/courses later than the Friday of the fourth
week after the beginning of the semester.

Students discontinued on academic grounds from one Faculty may
be allowed to apply into another Faculty provided that the sponsor
approves. However, re-application within the Muhimbili University
College of Health Sciences is not possible because courses are
similar.

Discontinued students wishing to re-apply in the same Faculty
must show evidence of having followed further studies satisfactory
to the Faculty/College

Students will be allowed to be away from University studies for
a maximum of two years if they are to be allowed to be re-admitted
to the same year of studies where they left off.

Students discontinued from studies because of examination irregularities
will be considered for re-admission after they have been away
for three years. They will be required to re-apply and compete
with other applicants for re-admission into first year.

No change of names by students will be entertained during the
course of study at the University. Students will only be allowed
to use names appearing on their certificates.

No student will be allowed to postpone studies after effective
commencement of an academic year except under special circumstances.
Permission to postpone studies will be considered after producing
satisfactory evidence of the reasons for postponement and written
approval from the sponsor. Special circumstances shall include:

Sickness

Serious social problems (each case to be considered on its
own merit).

Severe sponsorship problem.

Permission to postpone studies will only be granted by the Ministry
of Science, Technology and Higher Education upon receipt of requests
from students that have been routed through the University Administration
(Dean and Chief Academic Officer), accompanied with relevant supporting
documents.

Students should seek adequate counseling from Academic Advisors,
Heads of Departments and Deans before applying for postponement
of studies.

The maximum time for which a student may remain registered in
the Faculty of Science is 5 years for a 3-year programme and 6
years for a 4-year programme. Any student who is required to repeat/complete
certain courses in order to qualify for the award of a degree
shall be deemed to have failed the programme at the end of the
maximum period if any of such courses have not been passed.
