Establishent of Department of Physics.

The Departments of Physics of the University of Dar es Salaam was established in 1965 at the then Dar es Salaam University College. The mission of the Department is teaching, research and public service. At present the Department of Physics offers courses that are part of the following degree programs: Bachelor of Science (Education), Bachelor of Education (Science), Bachelor of Science (General) and Bachelor of Science (with Geology). The Department  has also been engaged in offering undergraduate service courses in the area of biophysics for students of public health and molecular biology.

Apart from the undergraduate programmes the Department also offers advanced studies leading to the award of Masters of Science (M.Sc.)in Physics and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in various fields of specialization, namely, Materials Science, Solar Energy, Applied Nuclear Physics, Agricultural and Environmental Physics.
